NBC interested in Dreamworks.

Posted: 08/09/2005 - 12:20 AM, Danny
General Electric's(GE) NBC Universal is in talks to possibly buy the live action part of independent studio DreamWorks in what could be a deal worth $1 Billion, according to published reports. However these talks do not include the mega-hit incorperation, DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. Which is a branch of the live action studio.

Universal Studios and DreamWorks are already partners on several fronts. Universal is already responsible for distrubuting Dreamworks videos and DVD's via Universal Studios Home Video, plus, it also distrubutes it's films internationally through United Pictures International. The two studios also worked together, by co-financing GLADIATOR and Speilberg's upcoming film MUNICH.

Dreamworks has been on a roller coaster of blockbuste hits and big-screen woes. Their most recent film, The Island, which was partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures, only recieved a dissapointing $12.4 Million in it's first three days. But even such a film as the Island, can't taint Dreamwork's previous films such as 1999 Oscar winning film "American Beauty", and 2000's Best Picture: "The Gladiator."

These mega-hits could be responsible for GE's recent thumbs up to enter negotiations to buy Dreamworks.
